Herpetology - Captive Breeding

Captive bred reptiles and amphibians for sale

If you have read these pages you will, I hope, understand that I am first and foremost a conservationist and captive breeder. As a result the animals I breed are mostly either released into the wild (Sand Lizards), retained for breeding or exchanged with other breeders. Nonetheless surplus animals are sometimes bred which I am prepared to sell on. Please note, however, that the only ones I breed that I am prepared to sell as pets are Leopard Geckos. All other species I have to be satisfied that you will keep them in the most natural and stress free environments practical.  Unless otherwise stated I only sell animals that I have bred and which have been reared by me until they are sexable - 6 months to 2 years depending on species. As a consequence the animals you get are both captive bred and long term captive and certainly proven feeders. As a further consequence, while I typically sell them for lower prices than the trade they are NOT dirt cheap. A proportion of all moneys received for such animals is also set against the costs of the Sand Lizard Captive Breeding and Re-introduction Programme.

I always recommend that you come to inspect and collect the animals personally. If this is not practical they can be sent by carrier at the then applicable price (currently £20.00).

No animals currently available - details below as examples.

Leopard Geckos (Eublepharis macularis) - age approx 8 months .......  £25.00 each

SOLD

Juvenile Green Lizards (Lacerta bilineata) ......... £25.00 each (note Lacerta viridis and bilineata have recently been split by taxonomists. In my view this is totally incorrect. These animals are from a very long term breeding colony made up of both alleged species with typically 90-100% fertility and hatch rates).

SOLD

I require that potential purchasers will keep these in outdoor or vivarium or a greenhouse. They are not suitable for indoor vivaria in which their best lifespan is about 5 years. Conversely my oldest male has just emerged from hibernation and is now in his 18th year.

Juvenile Painted Agama (Laudakia stellio brachydactyla) ..... £20.00 each. Ideally these should be kept in an unheated greenhouse. They can be kept in a spacious indoor vivarium - at least 1 metre high by 1 metre length by 0.5 metres depth for no more than 1 male and three females. UV light is essential together with a winter dormancy. Do not mix with smaller sized lizards such as P. muralis or even L. viridis - they will eat them!

SOLD

Mostr species of which we can be confident of breeding success in 2009 are already booked. In the event of larger than usual clutches/double clutching etc I will post details of availability here.
